EL MAY
MINI MANSIONS
OWEN
EL MAY: waste of time, complete waste of time. the end.
MINI MANSIONS: I absolutely loved them. it took Sonia a couple songs to get into them, and I’m not sure Drew was impressed. keyboards, bass, and the drums were a floor tom tuned way down, a snare, high hat and a ride cymbal. the drummer/vocalist plays or played bass for QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE (not Nick Oliveri, but the guy who replaced him) we wound up getting the record which was a complete disappointment… a total 180 from the live show. it’s not bad but it’s also not what I wanted… it sounds like an Elliot Smith record. lots of guitars. the show was much cooler.
OWEN: just like last time, mike came out with his backpack guitar and two beers, sat down and asked if we wanted to talk about anything… he mostly played stuff from GHOST TOWN and NEW LEAVES. he played a couple songs from AT HOME WITH… the place was packed. I’m really glad I saw him in Minneapolis a few years ago. this crowd was probably 85% larger than the last show which took away the intimacy but I’m not going to complain. it’s not every day you get to see Mike Kinsella perform…
we sat upstairs because we’re old
